Meridian is a recruitment company providing permanent and temporary roles across four key sectors - build environment, health, office and professional, and industrial.
The company has been going over 30 years and has offices all over the UK. They help to recruit candidates for businesses in most towns and cities across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Part of the business’ development included a recent refurbishment at the Manchester Head Office, to provide a better working environment for the staff there.
The introduction to Eatock Design & Build was through Maria Hatton of Hattons Design, where they formed a collaboration. Hattons Design provided all the design styling concepts of the office interior, while Eatock Design & Build re-designed the space layout and carried out the refurbishment works.
Carmel Bardsley, Procurement & Property Manager at Meridian, commented,
“Maria Hatton gave an initial three concepts based on initial conversations. We liked elements from two of the designs, including the greenery and plants along with the Meridian colour palette. The second element included pops of colour.
The previous interior was very clinical and only two colours were used in the interior space. Also, when you walked in through the front door it was a very slim corridor which wasn’t inviting.
Hattons Design and Eatock Design & Build worked with Meridian and designed the interior space with a much more open plan and vibrant feel. However, it was important to include different areas and break out spaces within the open plan environment.”
Here are the project brief specifics:
- Open-plan design with break out areas
- Dividing planter and other office plants
- New furniture
- Branded interior design colour scheme
- Welcome lounge, private office, and boardroom
- New kitchen area
- Recreational area complete with pool table
- Feature lighting
- New flooring
Scope of Work
The office refurbishment took 6 weeks in total.
Jeni Wilkie, Director of Eatock Design & Build, commented,
“We had a 6 week programme to transform the space whilst the Meridian team were remote working – we handed over ahead of schedule allowing staff to get in early for a sneak peak.
We have worked with Maria Hatton on several projects now and we were excited to be working with her again on this fit out scheme.”
Once the interior styling of the office was decided, Eatock Design and Build re-designed the office space to accommodate the brief specifics.
Starting out as an empty shell a new welcome lounge was created, together with an interview room. Stylish dividers were then used with plants and foliage to separate sections within the open-plan environment.
A private office, boardroom, workspace areas, kitchen area and a breakout space were all designed to encourage collaboration within the Meridian team, but also allowed for the workers to concentrate on their job.
We specified high quality furniture in the vibrant colour schemes created by Hattons Design. These chairs, stools and tables complemented the various elements in the Meridian colour palette.
The team at Eatock Design & Build worked professionally to complete the job quickly and to a high standard.
Carmel Bardsley, commented,
“The Meridian colour was used as a primary colour throughout the interior, but other vibrant colours were used in other details of the interior, including the furniture.
That really makes the floor space for me.
I also really like the shelving with the foliage on and the breakout areas, it’s just awesome.”
It was important that Eatock Design and Build used high quality furniture as well as fixtures and fittings throughout the office refurbishment, to uphold the initial concept designs.
The private office featured crittall glazing as well as high quality door hardware. Interior glazing is extremely popular as it helps to give privacy but also keeps a sense of open space, as well as helping natural light throughout interior spaces.
The sense of natural light combines with the plants and foliage throughout the interior office space, giving biophilic elements to the space. These help to increase the wellbeing of staff, which was important to Meridian as they wanted to help staff transition back to the office environment after the Pandemic.
Carmel Bardsley, commented,
“I think it’s worked really really well. You’ve got the vast open spaces where people can come and relax and have a quiet conversation with someone. Then there are the dedicated workspace areas too. The whole office just flows really well and the design works for our team.
It’s really important to have the quality and workspace we have. Certainly after the Pandemic people had reservations in coming back into the office. So we wanted to give them a space that was a home-from-home and encouraged them to come back into the office environment. This was a fundamental part of the brief that we gave to Maria.
The quality of the products have been great and it’s all come together really well.
I’d absolutely recommend Eatock Design & Build as well as Maria Hatton, no matter how big or small your space is.”
Just like with Meridian’s project, working with Eatock Design and Build ensures your office fit out project is designed to maximise your interior space, runs smoothly, on time and completely within budget.
