Based in the heart of city centre Manchester on Peter Street, 33 Legal had aspirations to upgrade their office space to inspire creativity, productivity and attract the best talent.
Part of their mission to be Manchester’s leading personal and criminal injury practice was dependent on creating a world class office environment that their team were proud of and wanted to work in.
After a year of working from home, 33 Legal wanted to bring their team back and as a result approached Eatock Design and Build to help create a stylish and functional office space.
It was clear from initial consultations with 33 Legal of the importance of creating an amazing space. Rival legal companies within Manchester, such as Slater and Gordon and EasiDrive, all boast quality office environments and therefore, this was the next logical step for 33 Legal.
We presented various office refurbishment and design options to the managing directors at 33 Legal, from which we created a thorough and detailed brief to ensure the end result was exactly what the client wanted.
Here are the project brief specifics:
- Total size: 6000 sq ft
- 40 person open plan design
- 2 module office internal spaces
- Breakout space
- Waiting area
- 12 person boardroom
- 2 six-person meeting rooms
- 3x collaboration media booths
- Sound-absorbing acoustic doughnuts
- Storage options with planters
Scope of Work
The Cat B fit out project meant our team was working from a blank canvas. The brand colours and newly designed logo were influential in the direction we took the internal aesthetics, but overall we drove the design and specification of the office fit out project.
It was great working with Andrew Doyle, Director, who was forward-thinking and open to our direction. Paul Eatock, director of Eatock Design and Build, worked closely with Andrew and was instrumental in asking questions and recommending various design and functional elements, to guide 33 Legal through the fit out process.
Andrew commented, “Paul veered me away from bad choices. It was essential. Without him we’d have had a bland two-dimensional office. Instead, we’ve ended up with something great. I don’t think there’s anything out there that’s better and he was 100% the driving force behind it.”
Creating the open plan office space with various internal elements, such as breakout spaces, office/desk space, meeting rooms, a waiting area and media booths meant careful consideration had to be given to the design and functionality.
With it being open plan, it meant ambient noise levels and reverberation sounds could be a problem. But we had the foresight to design and specify sound-absorbing acoustic doughnuts over the desks which reduced noise levels and meant workers could concentrate in the office environment.
Andrew Doyle comments,
It’s been a resounding success, staff love it, new clients love it."
Following the completion of the office fit out project for 33 Legal’s Manchester office, they were able to recruit top quality talent to their team. The new office environment clearly reflected the company’s ambitions and drive to be the best legal company in Manchester.
Importantly, the refurbishment project was completed on time. Paul Eatock comments, “This was a fantastic project to work on. We showed up when we said we were going to show up, worked in a conscientious and sensitive way around the team, and even the little touches of clearing up afterwards were greatly appreciated by Andrew and the team.
For us at Eatock Design and Build, it isn’t just providing the best designs and specifications, it’s the service and attention to detail we like to give our clients. We appreciate they have businesses to run while projects are ongoing and try to be as discreet as we can.”
